The upcoming election is set to be the largest internal party election in PNC's history, with 2,095 positions up for election.
People's National Congress (PNC) has decided to review its list of candidates for the upcoming internal elections of the party following concerns that some names were omitted.
Shaneez Hashim, a candidate for the Hulhumale' constituency, expressed concern on his campaign page, stating that his team has stopped its work after another candidate was appointed as the constituency president without an election.
PNC issued a statement yesterday acknowledging administrative issues with the list of eligible candidates who had applied to contest the elections. To address these concerns, the party will review the list, and a full list of eligible candidates will be announced on Saturday, PNC said.
The upcoming election is set to be the largest internal party election in PNC's history, with 2,095 positions up for election.
These include the position of president and vice-president of each constituency. Constituencies are defined in the same way as parliamentary constituencies, and if a PNC member of parliament represents a constituency, they will automatically assume the role of constituency president.
Candidates for constituency president positions are required to submit 50 new members to join the party, while those running for vice-president must submit 25 new members.
PNC aims to become the party with the largest membership.
