Mayor of Male' City Adam Azim has said last night that besides 'cutting ribbons' on projects that had already been completed by the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration, the incumbent government has achieved nothing in their first year in office.

Azim delivered a speech highly criticizing the government while speaking at last night's major rally held at the Artificial Beach by opposition MDP, the first of its kind within the past year.

He said that all the government had managed to do within the past year is to raise taxes, raise water and electricity bills and raise the dollar rates.

"In our administration, we completed a project every eleven days. But this government is still struggling to even lay down a single brick," he said.

Mayor Azim questioned what the government has been doing, pointing out that they had still been unable to hand over the flats and land plots allocated to citizens by the previous MDP administration.

He also responded to this government's claims that the MDP administration had printed money and taken large loans. His response was that if the economy truly had no money, then the government could not have afforded to continue employing over 2000 political appointees.

"If we had taken unmanageably large loans, then they wouldn't have paid USD 35 million to bring in some 'birds'," he said, referring to the military drones that had been acquired by this administration.

Azim alleged that the drones remain unused, adding that the government is wasting public money on such endeavours.

"They just do not know how to manage. A government can be led by having wisdom and patience," he said.

Azim called for action, stating that it is no longer an option to sit back and watch while the people are suffering, businesses going bankrupt, and the country being destroyed.
