At least twenty Maldivian students are currently stuck in Ukraine while its neighboring Russia on Thursday, 24th February, officially declared war.
Meanwhile, the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that all local students except for five living in Kharkiv, have already been repatriated back to the island nation.
The ministry further reported that it is working alongside the Maldivian Embassy in Germany, which is the closest local embassy to the Ukraine, are currently monitoring the situation of the five remaining students.
The recent reports confirm that while one of the students residing in Kharkiv arrived in the Maldives quite recently, four others had flown back home on Friday, previous week.
In addition to this, twenty-five more have already departed from Kharkiv to fly back to the Maldives, who according to the ministry will reach home sometime during Thursday afternoon.
Apart from the five students currently stuck at the Ukrainian border city of Kharkiv, fourteen others are currently stuck in the Western Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk while two more are stuck elsewhere in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin officially declared war earlier on Thursday while its military has already laid siege on some of Ukraine's airports.
