Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree has said today that some persons are being dismissed from the company within ongoing company restructuring efforts.

MMPRC's Board decided yesterday to dismiss Deputy Managing Director Bassam Adam and Chief Corporate Officer Ibrahim Asim. The post of Chief Marketing Officer is also being dissolved. The individual who had been filling that position resigned in April.

Shiuree told Mihaaru News today that the measures had been taken under ongoing organizational restructuring in efforts to streamline the management of the company.

Under this, a decision had been reached to no longer keep two Deputy Managing Directors at the company, and instead give the responsibilities to one. The posts of Chief Corporate Officer and Chief Marketing Officer had been dissolved.

"The people in those positions basically do the same work. They have similar responsibilities. That's why the posts were dissolved. This is a change brought under the restructuring," Shiuree explained.

Shiuree added that even previously, MMPRC had only had one Deputy Managing Director, and that the second post had been created more recently.

He said that organizational restructures are not done targeting a specific person.

"I don't have any such issues. I only came to this post recently," said the MD who was appointed to the post last month.

DMD Bassam had handled management of the company after the previous MD Fathimath Thaufeeq had been dismissed.

Bassam was earlier accused of sexual harassment of a staff member during a tourism fair. MMPRC, at the time, investigated the allegation, and no action was taken against him.
