The recently reconstructed section of Ameenee Magu in Male' has deteriorated significantly, posing safety risks for vehicles due to large bumps, sunken areas, and potholes.

This section, which was opened earlier this year after reconstruction work initiated in July 2022 under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, has experienced rapid wear and tear, particularly near the stadium from Iskandharu Koshi.

Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef stated that while repairs are not directly within the ministry’s mandate, they will collaborate with the city council to address the road’s condition. However, a timeline for repairs has not been provided.

The government had allocated MVR 84 million to repair Ameenee Magu.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced this week that an extensive road improvement project for Male' and Vilimale', is set to begin early next year under China’s free assistance.

This project, involving full road asphalt-laying, will span approximately four years. A Chinese team has already visited the Maldives to conduct preliminary surveys and design plans for the project.
