It has been reported that the man had been accused of sexual abuse of a child 13 years ago as well, but had been released without charges.
The abuse of his daughter, of around 8 years of age, and another child had come to light last week when the daughter had been at a playdate at a friend's house.
She had shared her experiences with an adult at the house, who subsequently raised the issue with authorities.
The man has now been arrested under a court order.
Police also confirmed that a 56 year old man has been arrested under a court order last night.
A resident of the island told Mihaaru News that this time the man has been accused of sexually abusing his daughter, who is studying in Grade 2, and another girl from the same island.
Ministry of Social and Family Development also visited the island in response to receiving reports of the case. The children believed to be victims of the man were subjected to medical tests as well.
