With a video being published on Mihaaru yesterday of the deteriorating state of Rasfannu Beach, Mayor Azim has said that maintenance and care of the huts and barbecue area there is the responsibility of MTCC.
Azim said that the kiosk being operated there is a space given to MTCC in exchange for repairs conducted at the area. The rent from the kiosk goes to MTCC.
"As there is an agreement, we are refraining from working there so as to respect that. However, we do clean the trash at Rasfannu," he said.
Maintenance of the Pomelo Restaurant structure and the showers at Rasfannu fall under Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). The council said that a private party has been contracted for the maintenance of the area from Rasfannu to IGMH.
In addition to Rasfannu, the area where the Tsunami monument is located is also seeing major deterioration and damage. Azim said that instead of repairs, infrastructure work will be required in this area. However, he said that the City Council does not have the budget to conduct such work.
"If budget is arranged, then even the Council can do that work," he said.
Azim further said that a letter will be sent to MTCC today regarding repair and maintenance of Rasfannu Beach.
