Maldives Customs Service confiscated 1.5 KG of drugs sent through the postal service.

According to Customs, the 1943 pills, identified to be 'ecstasy', were imported via concealed parcels from Belgium. Moreover, Customs confirmed that an individual was arrested in relation to the bust.

The drugs, seized on December 24, has been handed over to Maldives Police Service.

Heroin and cannabis-derived substances like hash oil are most commonly smuggled into Maldives. However, in recent history, there have been numerous operations conducted by the police that have to lead to major drug busts of psychoactive substances such as 'MDMA' (ecstasy), 'LSD', 'YABA' (meth) and more.

As per Police statistics, there have been 130 drug-related cases in 2019.
