In order to resolve the issues within the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and proceed an election, football clubs have appealed to the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to bring the Association's management to a Normalisation Committee.

The delegation from FIFA currently present in the Maldives to assess the state of the country's football scene and the issues within the Football Association had convened with football clubs, the Commissioner of Sports, and the Maldives Olympics Committee during their visit.

The most notable convention within these is the meeting held with the football club excluded from the Extra Ordinary Congress proceeded earlier by the FAM.

"During this meeting, [FAM's] member clubs opined and requested that the best procedure to rise from the current state is to bring [FAM] to a Normalisation Committee." shared an official knowledgeable on the discussed themes of the meetings.

This delegation, comprised of representatives from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as well as FIFA had deliberated with the Commissioner of Sports, Mohamed Tholal alongside officials of the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and the Maldives Olympics Committee on Tuesday. Conventions with clubs excluded from the congress and FAM were held the day before on Monday.

"Institutions also do not allow [FAM] to be taken to a Normalisation even if clubs want it," said the aforementioned official.

He stated that the FIFA delegation had questioned whether subjecting them to a Normalisation Committee is the most ideal procedure as many problems of FAM are piled and and clubs hold many complaints about the Association. However, no clubs present at the meeting had a difference of opinion on the matter, revealed the official.

"The FIFA delegation had asked if bringing [FIFA] to a Normalisation Committee is the best course of action. All clubs responded to this saying it is the best way." said the official.

"People from the FIFA delegation said that they are not the ones who will make a final decision, that FIFA will decide a course of action based on the report prepared [by the delegation] after these meetings. That FIFA will directly make the decision. And they also asked the clubs to trust FIFA."

FAM was summoned to a Normalisation Committee on December 2014 as well. The Committee remained in existence until the end of May 2016. The current President of FAM, Bassam Adeel Jaleel was the General Secretary appointed by the Normalisation Committee at that time. Prior to the first FAM election held in 2008, a committee was further assigned with FAM to draft regulations and proceed the elections.
