Acquitted Suspect in Anas' Murder Re-Arrested for Drug Offenses Shortly After Release

A man previously acquitted of the murder of Mohamed Anas, who was fatally stabbed at the Litus Service Center seven years ago, has been re-arrested in connection with a drug-related case.

n the trial court's decision on July 25, 2017, all seven individuals accused in Anas's murder were declared not guilty. Deputy Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen, speaking at a press conference organized by the Homeland Security Sector, mentioned that the official report on the verdict in Anas's death case is pending receipt.

"We will seek legal advice and initiate the appeal process once we obtain the report," Naveen stated.

However, in a recent drug operation, a launch was intercepted, resulting in the arrest of one of the seven individuals previously accused in Anas's murder, who was found in possession of drugs. The police, however, did not disclose additional details about the individual.

"In an operation conducted yesterday, we halted and searched a launch, apprehending individuals with a substantial quantity of drugs and alcohol. Upon intercepting the speedboat carrying the contraband, we discovered a person implicated in Anas' murder case," Naveen explained during a news conference at Iskandhar Koshi.

The individuals facing charges of intentional homicide are as follows:

- Lhaviyani Kurendhoo, Asurumaage, Ahmed Zayan

- M. Lonumidhilige, Afrah Abdul Razzaq

- M. Dhimishgu, Usman Shareef

Those charged with participation in manslaughter include:

- Laamu Gan, Thundi, Nannaarige, Junaih Abdulla

- Male' Registry No.1746, Simah Moosa

- S. Feydhoo, Weston Villa, Hassan Mahfooz

- Th. Kinbidhoo, Gulfaamge, Mohamed Shaz

Naveen announced plans to hold a press conference on next Sunday to provide further details on the drug operation.
