Second phase of laying tarmac on Fuvahmulah roads begins

The second phase of laying tarmac on the inner roads of Fuvahmulah has officially commenced today.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the project this afternoon on his arrival in Fuvahmulah during his ongoing trip to four southern atolls.

Under this project, tarmac will be laid on the smaller roads of Fuvahmulah as well. This covers an area of 12.7 kilometres, consisting of 50 roads.

The second phase of this project was contracted to MTCC in July 2023 with a budget of MVR 255.2 million, to be completed within 2 years.

Under the first phase, the main and wider roads of the city are already tarmacked.

The physical work on this project commenced in the last quarter of 2020. Under the first phase, tarmac was laid on 31 roads, covering approximately over 95,000 meters.

The first phase of the project cost MVR 331 million.
