Maldives Police Service, on Wednesday night, arrested a helmet-clad perpetrator over an attempted mugging.

According to Police, the burglary attempt took place near Fathaha Sunbuli in Fareedhee Magu around 2330 hrs when a man transporting a large amount of cash by motorcycle was stopped by an 18-year-old male.

Moreover, Police stated that the arrest was made due to the efforts of two policemen in the area at the time.

Police also revealed that the perpetrator was accompanied by another helmet clad-individual who fled the scene.

The case is currently under investigation.

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday by Police to raise awareness on crimes of this nature.

Assaults and muggings by helmet-clad assailants covering their faces have been on the rise since the government implemented wearing helmets while crossing the Sinamale' bridge as mandatory practice from March 10.

Due to the increasing robberies targeting vehicles transporting large amount of cash, Maldives Police Service advised the public to request their aid in such cases.
