The thief was arrested at 1215 on Thursday by police officers patrolling the area, as he attempted to flee on foot after mugging the foreign pedestrian in Henveiru Ward of Male'.

A Police investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Assaults and muggings by helmet-clad assailants covering their faces have drastically increased; Several million Rufiyaa were stolen in some instances, and while the police have arrested suspects in some cases, the stolen amounts were not recovered.

It is a violation of the recently implemented helmet regulations to wear protective head gear that covers the face obscuring identity.
