Labour Relations Authority (LRA) has said today that they are looking into the case of Indian construction workers who made a video appeal seeking help after facing harsh conditions.

In a statement released today, LRA said that salaries of 1 month and 10 days had not been paid to about 40 workers, and they have submitted an appeal to the authority asking for assistance to return to their country.

The authority said that they had now communicated with the hiring company, and will be making arrangements for return once the salaries are paid.

LRA said that they are deliberating with the company, seeking a resolution to the issue.

It has been reported that these workers are employed by Renaatus, an Indian company registered in the Maldives and active in the local construction industry.

As per some reports on Indian media, the High Commission of India is also working on arranging the labourers return to their country. These reports state that the workers have not been paid in six months.
