Minister of Health commends Maldives for its exemplary counter-measures and curtailing efforts on Covid-19 pandemic.

According minister Ahmed Naseem, the island nation should be taken as an example globally, for its pandemic control efforts.

At a special ceremony held to acknowledge healthcare workers, medical professionals and others who assisted with the Covid-19 vaccine campaign last year, the minister had noted the instrumental role of the anti-virus vaccine in curbing the spread. While he stressed on the prevalence of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives, he emphasized on the strides made in curtailing the outbreak.

In his speech of gratitude, he had the highest regard of praise for Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur, whom he claimed was the most noteworthy individual in the state's efforts against Covid-19.

Retracing his initial days in the office as a newly appointed Minister of Health, minister Naseem said when he took helm of the cabinet position, Maldives was already embroiled in the pandemic's socio-economic impact.

"Today we have revoked the state of health emergency, and have become adjusted to a new normal with the Almighty's grace. Maldives will be regarded as an exemplary nation both regionally and globally for its pandemic control efforts," Naseem said.

So far a total of 399,050 individuals in the Maldives received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination, while 384,827 individuals reported of receiving the second dose. In addition to this, a total of 166,271 individuals had received a third dose while 1,050 had received a fourth as well.

Minister Naseem commended on the systematic approach towards vaccination without discrimination towards expatriates.

At the ceremony, the Director General of Public Health had highlighted on the socio-economic hindrances for the past two years. She also had emphasized on the crucial role played by the vaccine in redeeming the situation.
