In the wake of the terrorist attacks across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, the Maldivian Embassy in the country announced that consular services will be available over this weekend.

The embassy made the announcement in a tweet, calling on all Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka to abide by the instructions of the authorities. The embassy also listed the hotline numbers for consular services:

- 0768816666

- 0727277072

- 0766086660

- 0764189900

Previously, the embassy only opened on official working days.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director of Communication Miuvaan Mohamed further shared that emergency consular services will be available 24/7 from the embassy.

He urged also urged Maldivians to fully cooperate with the operations of the Sri Lankan security services.

Moreover, he assured that Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Omar Razzaq, Deputy Ambassador Aslam Shakir, and all officials of the embassy are closely monitoring the situations of Maldivians in Sri Lanka.

The Islamic State (IS) recently claimed responsibility for the string of bomb blasts across Sri Lanka, which killed over 200 people and injured 500 others last Sunday. The authorities have since launched a mass crackdown to inspect residences across the country.

Sri Lankan police arrested four Maldivian students upon discovering an unlicensed air gun in their residence, and two other individuals after finding a book containing information on IS inside their house.

While the six are still in custody, the authorities have not accused them of being involved in the bombings.

Miuvaan assured that the embassy is in contact with the families of the detainees, to provide them with any information available.
