Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthhalib today apologised for delays in resolving the flat allocation list finalised under the previous government’s Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme.

Speaking at his first press conference since assuming responsibilities for the government’s housing projects, under the newly merged Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Muthhalib provided the media with a status update.

He detailed the status of the projects when he took over, and gave updates on the current situation. Speaking on that subject, he acknowledged the significant delay in resolving and verifying the flat list issue, and apologised for it.

“As this list was announced on 15 November, 2023. I apologise to all those who applied for the scheme, for failing to resolve the issued highlighted by various agencies and publish the list within 14 months after verification,” Muthhalib said at the beginning of the press conference.

The minister explained that the government’s priority is to verify the list of 4,000 flat recipients announced by the previous administration, rather than processing the forms of over 20,000 applicants for the scheme.

Previously, Muthhalib, reiterating President Dr. Muizzu's earlier assurance that the list would be verified and published before this coming Ramadan. Muthhalib reaffirmed his commitment, noting that the verified list would be made public and that an opportunity for complaints would follow.
