Authorities have apprehended four individuals on suspicion of holding a person hostage inside a car, and attempting to extort money out of them.

Police said last night that a complaint was filed about a Maldivian male being held hostage inside a car, on Hulhumalé's Orchidmaa Hingun. The agency detailed that the victim was tortured and that the perpetrators called his family and tried to extort money from them.

Authorities first arrested Tholal Moosa, reg. number 9022, in connection to the case.

Husham Ibrahim (Haa Dhaalu atoll Kumundhoo) and Adam Shareef who both share the same permanent address were arrested later on, along with Hussain Haikal Niyaz (Malé City) and Ahmed Rishfan (Hulhumalé).

The Hulhumalé Magistrate Court ordered all seven individuals to be remanded for seven days.

This case comes just days after Police busted into a Hulhuamalé Hiyaa Flat where a man was held hostage and being tortured. 12 were arrested from the scene.

Police said that the perpetrators were attempting to cut off the victim's finger when officers broke into the apartment.

While kidnapping cases have been on the rise as of recent, Police are yet to provide the details of these cases.
