Man arrested for kidnapping, extortion in Hulhumale'

A man has been arrested for holding another person hostage inside a car and attempting to extort money in Hulhumale'.

Police said that the incident was reported last night, when a man was kidnapped, beaten, and forced to call his family in an attempt to extort money.

Thalal Moosa, Dhaftharu 9022, was arrested in connection with the case.

In a separate incident, 12 individuals were arrested and their remand extended regarding the kidnapping and torture of a man inside a Hiyaa flat last Thursday night.

There has been a recent rise in kidnapping cases, but police have not yet released additional details about the incidents.
