A special ceremony was held at Velana International Airport today to welcome the 2 millionth tourist of the year.
The 2 millionth tourist is an Australian woman visiting the Maldives with her husband and two children.
The family has been awarded a six day stay at Saii Lagoon Maldives, and special gifts were presented to them by MMPRC, MACL, Maldives Immigration and Maldives Customs Service.

Maldives has 1,747,370 tourist arrivals last year. The government aimed for 2 million visitors this year, with many efforts to achieve this carried out through the year.
With the new VIA terminal expected to reach completion next year, the government targets to reach 2.2 million tourist arrivals in 2025.
