Digital industry will make up 15 percent of GDP in 2030: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said Maldives's digital economy will contribute to 15 percent of the country's GDP by 2030.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged that he will expand the country's digital economy, and make it 15 percent of the country's GDP by the year 2030.

Speaking at the business forum held in Bangalore, President Muizzu said that India is making great strides in new technology and the digital sector, become the tech leader in the region, and invited Indian investors to bring modern technology such as artificial intelligence and digital services to the country.

He went on to say that the country will investors to make use of its strategic location, and take advantage of its youth working population.

President Muizzu also said that Maldives' proximity to India, as well as the two countries' long standing relationship, similar culture and customs would make it easier for Indian investors to expand their services in the country.

He also said that the digital services available in India could be used to expand Maldives' digital sector, and highlighted the introduction of RuPay card services in Maldives as an example.

President Muizzu also touched on the potential opportunities available in the education, information technology and health sectors, urging investors to especially explore Maldives' health sector to provide services with the most modern technology.
