Mediterranean Shipping Company to start traveling to Maldives

MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim has said that commencement of travels by one of the world's largest shipping lines, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to the Maldives will see the number of containers brought into the country rise to 6000 per month.

Maldives Ports Limited CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim has said that commencement of travels by one of the world's largest shipping lines, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to the Maldives will see the number of containers brought into the country rise to 6000 per month.

In a ceremony held today to announce MSC commencing trips to Maldives, Wajeeh said that at present, an average of 5000 containers of goods are brought in through the Male' Commercial Harbour. With MSC now travelling here, the number will increase by another 1000 containers, he said.

Yesterday, the MSC Manasaf docked at Male'. MPL welcomed the boat with a water salute. MPL said that MSC will make three trips to Maldives each month. Yesterday's boat alone brought in 896 containers.

Wajeeh said that many efforts are being taken even now to further streamline services provided at the Male' Commercial Harbour. He said that trade will expand as more boats begin to arrive.

MSC's local agent is Centurion. Centurion's Managing Director Aiman Jaleel said that they had received huge assistance from MPL in the introduction of MSC travels to Maldives.

MSC boats will arrive in Maldives from India, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

MSC has the largest shipping fleet globally, holding 20 percent container capacity from shipping line boats used around the world.
