Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said yesterday that Velana International Airport will introduce a new baggage handling system in preparation for this year's winter season.
In preparation for the winter season, Shareef said the system will speed up the airport's operations and improve the quality of service provided to passengers.
He added that priority will be given to upgrading MACL's equipment and improving services. The employees and management will work together in line with the company's goals, he said.
According to MACL, the meeting was held to discuss the airport operation faced during the upcoming tourist season and to coordinate efforts to address them.
In addition to Shareef, the meeting was attended by Deputy Managing Director Mujuthaba Latheef and senior officials of the company.
MACL said it plans to hold further such discussions with the company's shareholders in the future.
Velana International Airport is preparing for the tourist peak season. Among them, work has been started to expand the existing terminal area and solve the problem of overcrowding.
