Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) placed the checkposts on the east and west side of the airport for the purposes of conducting security checks on persons and vehicles entering the air side. The checkposts are equipped with modern, advance facilities, and will provide advancements tot he efforts by Maldives Customs to bring an end to smuggling prohibited items into the country, MACL said.
MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef said that the two new checkposts which have been added is a strong step taken in the prevention of smuggling of illegal narcotics into the country.
"This offers new advancements to the efforts by Maldives Customs to seize drugs and contraband being brought into the Maldives," Shareef said.
He stated that MACL aims to continue strengthening security at the airports to ensure the safety of passengers and to assist Customs in their work. He added that efforts are also ongoing to set up arrangements for luggage scanning in addition to air side security checks.
