Two Maldivians who arrived back in the country in a flight from Thailand have been found in possession of 2 kg drugs, and have subsequently been arrested.
Two Maldivians who arrived back in the country in a flight from Thailand have been found in possession of 2 kg drugs, and have subsequently been arrested.
Customs said that that the two arrested last Thursday are two Maldivian men aged 41 and 21.
They said that Customs officers had found their activity suspicious and had conducted a search, upon which drugs had been discovered hidden on their bodies.
Initial testing indicates the drugs include 32 grams of heroin and 2.1 kg mephedrone. While the total weight comes to 2.4 kg, the street price is estimated to be at MVR 5.5 million.
Criminal Court has placed the two in remand in custody for a period of 15 days.
The court order states that drugs had been found concealed in their socks and in their boxers.
Customs said that the two individuals, as well as the drugs seized from them, have been handed over to police.
