In relation to the ongoing investigation into corruption within the Road Development Corporation (RDC) during the previous Maldivian Democratic Party led administration, passports of then RDC Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) and then Chief Financial Officer Yasir Hassan have been seized, effectively setting a travel ban on both.
On Thursday, Police had searched the apartments of Moosa, his wife, and Yasir and seized a number of electronic devices.
Police said yesterday that the two have now been informed of the travel ban.
Central bank Maldives Monetary Authority's Financial Intelligence Unit notified the Police that suspicious funds had been deposited to Yasir's account, the total coming up to MVR 13 million. Police subsequently launched an investigation into this late last year.
On November 14 last year, three days before the end of the previous administration, Police entered the RDC offices and took away relevant documents.
Both, however, have rejected the allegations of corruption against them.
