The Elections Commission (EC) of the Maldives has announced that the 2023 presidential election will be held on September 9.
At a press conference held today, President of EC Fuad Thaufeeq said that if a second round of voting is required after the September 9 presidential election, it will be held on September 30.
The commission further confirmed over 280,000 Maldivian citizens are eligible to cast vote this year, which is an increase of 21,000 compared to the last presidential election, he said.
The campaign period for the election will run from August 10 to September 7.
This year’s election will see 145 ballot boxes fixed in Male’ City, 47 in Hulhumale’, 10 in Vilimale’, 327 across the administrative atolls, and 12 boxes in foreign countries with significant Maldivian communities.
Additionally, the commission confirmed 50 ballot boxes will be placed across various tourist resorts in the Maldives.
