President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the COP29 ongoing in Azerbaijan.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the COP29 ongoing in Azerbaijan.
In the meeting, President Muizzu highlighted the crucial need for more robust international financial support in tackling threats of climate change, as well as in managing debt burdens faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The President also extended thanks for the UN's continued advocacy for SIDs.
Secretary General Guterres assured that he would continue to address vulnerabilities faced by SIDS and to engage international financial institutes in these efforts.
On the sidelines of COP29, President Muizzu has also met with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) President and Chair of the Board of Directors Jin Liqun.
At this meeting, the President thanked AIIB for the assistance they have extended towards Maldives developments, and appealed for continued support to achieve the goals outlined in the Maldives' 20 year Development Master Plan and in climate adaptation initiatives.
