Hajj Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Shakeel has revealed that, at present, there are over 9000 persons listed on the Hajj slot queue.

Shakeel told Mihaaru News that there are currently 9115 people who have paid for the Hajj pilgrimage and are awaiting slots. This includes 8623 persons who have applied for the first time, and 492 who have previously been on the pilgrimage.

The majority on the list are people under the age of 65 who have not previously been on Hajj, with the number reaching 7150. In this age category, 393 persons who have previously been on the pilgrimage have registered on the queue.

The second highest is persons between the age of 65 and 75 years. In this category, 1370 names have been noted. This includes 91 persons who have already been on Hajj earlier.

In over age 75 years, 103 new pilgrims and 8 repeat pilgrims have registered on the waitlist.

Last year, the government decided that all the quotas received by Maldives would be under the Hajj Corporation. Yesterday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu approved changes in policy to facilitate shortening the time spent on the waitlist, including granting precedence to first time pilgrims.

Maldives presently receives 1000 quotas for Hajj, however the government has said that it is working on increasing this.
