A delegation of the Commonwealth of Nations is observing the ongoing parliamentary election in Maldives.
According to a tweet by the Commonwealth, their observers are on the ground at various atolls to observe how the election proceedings are being carried out across the country.
“Today, people of #Maldives exercise their democratic right to #vote for the 2019 parliamentary #elections”, said the organisation in its tweet.
The Commonwealth added that the team will observe the voting and counting process until polling closes at 1600 hrs.
Voting commenced at 0800 hours across the country early Saturday. There are 264,589 eligible voters with a total of 386 candidates contesting for the 87 constituencies.
