Elections Commission (EC), on Thursday, published the electoral roll of voters eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming parliamentary election and opened complaint submissions.
EC member Ahmed Akram stated that complaints regarding the electoral roll would be accepted until February 9.
According to the notice issued by EC, residents of the capital city, Male', should submit their complaints to the National Complaints Bureau. Ward offices in the cities of Addu or Fuvahmulah will also accept complaints while island councils will receive complaints in other inhabited islands.
The electoral roll, which includes details of 25,589 eligible voters, has also been published in the national gazette. There were a total of 262,135 eligible voters for the 2018 presidential election.
Political parties are currently making preparations for the parliamentary elections. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has already held their primary elections and finalised candidates who will represent their party. Meanwhile, Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to award 36 tickets so far.
Individuals interested in contesting for a parliamentary seat can submit their candidacy to EC until February 21.
A total of 87 lawmakers will be elected during the upcoming parliamentary elections.
