President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's swearing in ceremony in coming November will be held open to the public.
Solih's spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi made the announcement at a press conference held Monday.
She revealed that the decision was made upon Solih's request.
"Our ideology is a government that works as closely as possible with the people. All of us wish for the oath-taking ceremony of a president, who was elected by the people, to be open for the public to participate," she said.
"We're working to [make arrangements] upon that request of President-Elect Honourable Ibrahim Mohamed Solih."
Solih of Maldivian Democratic Party was the presidential candidate of the opposition coalition. He won the election held on September 23 with 134,705 votes in his favour (58.4 percent), gaining the majority of 18 atolls, while incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom received 96,502 votes (41.6 percent) and the majority of only two atolls.
With Solih's lead of 38,000 votes, it marked the widest margin in a presidential election in Maldives.
