The voters’ registry has revealed that over 24,000 new eligible voters have been registered for the upcoming presidential elections.
According to the voter’s registry published by the Elections Commission (EC), a total of 263,183 voters have been registered for the upcoming presidential elections.
The previous election in 2013 had a total of 239,165 registered voters, indicating a decrease of 10 percent when compared to the numbers this year.
Upon turning legal of age, 24,018 new voters were registered prior to the presidential elections.
Elections Commission is yet to release the finalized voters’ registry to the public.
Hence, amendments to the voters’ registry may vary the number of newly registered voters.
