Police have begun a search operation along the beachside of Huras Magu in Alif Alif atoll Maalhos, as part of their investigation into the assault and murder of 65-year-old AbduRahman Adam of Orchidmaage, Maalhos.
A large police team has been deployed to the area near Maahiya, the residence of AbduRahman’s wife, where he had been living.
Police are searching the bushy area near the house and the nearby beachside.
While some residents of Maalhos believe that islanders were not involved in the attack, there is speculation that the perpetrators may have arrived from the sea, accessing the island via the Hurasmagu beachside.
Residents state that it would be difficult for anyone to dock at the harbour and make it to Maahiya without being spotted. The only option would have been to come ashore from the beach on what residents call 'Olhumathi' - the beach area adjacent to Huras Magu.
"It would have been very difficult for someone to dock at the harbour, enter Maahiya, and carry out such an attack. People were active in the area until very late that night, and there were people at the cafe' near the house. If they had passed through public places they would have been spotted. There is a chance that they could have come in a dinghy and come ashore on the 'Olhumathi' beach side though," a person speaking from the island said.
