The Edition - Code of Ethics
This is the Code of Ethics followed by journalists at The Edition. In their work, journalists at The Edition will abide by Islamic principles, the Constitution, laws and regulations of Maldives.
The Edition's journalists will uphold these three core principles to deliver quality journalism and reinforce the outlet's reputation as a trusted news leader.

To uphold these principles, the values held by The Edition journalists are:
- News and information will be grounded in verified facts. Content that is unconfirmed or uncertain will not be published. All relevant perspectives will be presented impartially and free from bias.
- No journalist at The Edition will be a member of a political party. Nor will they participate in any events organized by a political party.
- The Edition's journalists will avoid expressing support or opposition to any political ideology on social media.
- Individuals and sources providing information will be identified in The Edition's publications, except where anonymity is deemed necessary.
- Journalists will assess the public's need to know before sharing personal information. Where disclosure is not essential, consent will be obtained.
- Journalists will be transparent about their identity when gathering information for news. Exceptions will be made only when anonymity is essential to uphold public interest.
- Journalists will record interviews with the interviewee's consent and knowledge. Covert recordings will only be considered when the information is vital to public interest and cannot be obtained otherwise.
- Writing will be clear, courteous and concise, avoiding ambiguity. News reports will remain neutral, free from personal interpretation of journalists.
- Journalists will not accept bribes seeking to publish, avoid publishing or otherwise influence content on The Edition. They will also refrain from using journalist privileges for personal gain.
- When reporting on adverse events involving children, their identities will be safeguarded to preserve dignity and privacy.
- The Edition will not publish material that incites violence, promotes indecent behaviour, or depicts sexual content. Images and videos depicting severe personal loss or tragedy will be excluded to preserve dignity.
- In the instance that any errors are found in published content, it will be corrected at the earliest.
- All external content shared by The Edition, including images, information and media, will be properly credited.
- Visuals used in publications will be contextually relevant. Care will be taken to avoid causing any undue harm or defamation to individuals depicted.
- The Edition's journalists will fulfill their responsibilities with professionalism and accountability.
- The Edition's journalists will refrain from promoting news and information on other media platforms through any platforms.
Changes to Code of Ethics
Any changes to this Code of Ethics can be brought through a two-third majority vote amongst existing full time journalists at The Edition.
