MNDF has stated that Zakariyya Mohamed still remains missing, even as they complete searching a large area via air and sea.
Zakariyya, 79, went missing after going out sailing alone in a dinghy between GDh. Gahdhoo and Gan yesterday.
As of now, MNDF has searched 2,307.99 square nautical miles by sea and 30,30 square nautical miles by air.
MNDF said that in addition to Southern Area Command, Coast Guard Fourth Squadron, the Gahdhoo Police Station, fishermen from Gahdhoo and Gahdhoo Council are engaged in the search for Zakariyya.
When last seen, Zakariyya was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt and black shorts. The dinghy he sailed in is a white dinghy with a dark blue line, MNDF said.
Police have said that Zakariyya left from Gahdhoo to Gan at 9:30 am yesterday. He was then seen leaving Gan to sail back to Gahdhoo at 11:15 am yesterday.
With no news from him, he was reported missing to police yesterday afternoon. With this, police began conducting a search of uninhabited islands near Gan as well.
