A fire that broke out early this morning in an apartment at Vinares Flat Nine in Hulhumale' Phase 2 has left the unit uninhabitable, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said today.
The fire was reported at 7:41 am in Apartment 6 on the 13th floor of Vinares Tower 9. Firefighters from the Hulhumale' Fire Station responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

According to NDMA, the apartment sustained extensive damage and is no longer suitable for living. In response, temporary shelter has been arranged for four residents who were displaced by the incident.
“Four people have been provided with temporary shelter for five days, and two individuals have also been provided with food and clothing for the same duration,” the NDMA said in a statement.

While it is said that the fire started on a mattress, the cause is so far unclear.
Photos shared by MNDF show a bunk bed in the room entirely burned out, as well as the curtains having caught fire.
