Parliament has approved the appointment of Aishath Asna Hamdhy as the Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Asna’s appointment was unanimously endorsed by all 73 MPs present, following the Parliament committee's approval after interviewing her.
The position became vacant in March following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Ahmed Imad in March last year.
Asna is currently the managing director of MMA and oversees its financial sector division. She has worked at MMA for around 17 years.
The position of managing director was created as part of structural reforms introduced under Governor Ahmed Munawwar.
Under the new structure, managing directors are responsible for overseeing individual departments within the agency, with appointments made for two five-year terms.
