The family of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who sustained serious injuries after falling from the ninth floor of a building in Male' last month, say she has suffered permanent damage to her elbow.

Yumnu, who fell from H. Fentoniya onto the roof of the adjacent H. Mitaaz on the night of April 18, is currently receiving medical treatment in Malaysia. Her family confirmed she is conscious and recovering after undergoing multiple surgeries, including a critical operation to address a spinal fracture.

According to her sister, Ageela Naeem, doctors have informed the family that Yumnu’s elbow injury is likely permanent.

However, the family plans to consult additional specialists.

In an interview aired on Raajje TV and Channel 13 on Thursday night, Ageela spoke on her behalf.

“She last said to us, ‘Will I get justice? Are you sure justice will be served? This was not something I did myself. This was done by someone,’” Ageela said.

Following the interview, Police said they have considered Yumnu’s statement vital to the investigation and have been attempting to obtain it since the incident occurred. However, her medical condition has not allowed for questioning.

Two Maldivian police officers, including a doctor, are currently stationed in Malaysia to take her statement if doctors permit it.

Yumnu was flown to Malaysia after her family obtained travel clearance, with financial support from the government and the public.

National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) contributed USD 25,000 (approximately MVR 385,500) towards her treatment, while the public raised over MVR 700,000 through TikTok Live to help cover additional costs.
