A police recruit who was hospitalized in serious condition while undergoing training in Dhaalu atoll Vaanee has passed away.
Police Constable Hussain Gaais, 34, passed away while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male' early this evening. He had been part of the 40th Police Initial Training Course.
Gaais was found unresponsive on Monday morning after failing to wake up. It was reported that he had shown no signs of illness the night before.
He was initially taken to the atoll hospital in Kudahuvadhoo, before being transferred to IGMH for further medical treatment.
He had been on ventilator support at the time of his death.
