The Maldives has indicted three other people who were arrested for attempting to detonate a bomb in capital Male last April.

The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed Sunday that charges against three individuals in addition to Nasiu Mohamed of Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi island have been forwarded to the Criminal Court. However, the Office did not disclose further details on the defendants.

The suspects are those involved in a group of people who were found to be preparing Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) during a raid conducted in Machangolhi ward of capital Male.

The PG Office stated that the state is pressing terrorism charges against the four people. While the court is yet to announce a date to start the trial, the defendants face jail sentences between 17 to 20 years if proven guilty.

In a previous case, four people had been arrested over planting an IED near the presidential palace in November 2015. All four suspects were proven guilty with three of them facing 17 years in jail while the fourth is looking at a sentence of 20 years.
