The Criminal Court on Thursday decided to close doors on the trials of those charged with terrorism over attempting to detonate bombs in capital Male.

The suspects indicted for terrorism are Iuthisam Mohamed Saeed of Gaafu Dhaal atoll Madaveli island, Shiman Shareef of Haa Dhaal atoll Naavaidhoo island, and Nasiu Mohamed and Mohamed Thasleem of Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi island. They were arrested last April.

The Criminal Court held the first hearing of the trial early Thursday behind closed doors on request of the state.

Police had raided several places in capital Male and seized materials believed to be used to prepare Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in the arrests.

In a previous case, four people had been arrested over planting an IED near the presidential palace in November 2015. All four were proven guilty with three of them facing 17 years in jail while the fourth is looking at a sentence of 20 years.
