Revealing that 85 percent of households claimed the staple goods distributed during Ramadan which exceeded the estimated percentage of 65, MD of STO, Shimad revealed that both the rice and flour dispersed was of very high quality.
The company that led the importing and distributing of the free staple food items determined to be provided to households this Ramadan, State Trading Organization (STO) has revealed that the staples of rice and flour has been dispersed to 85 percent of households during the month.
Managing Director of STO, Shimad Ibrahim stated yesterday that this is a very remarkable achievement and further revealed that the rice and flour were imported inside the country with the assumption that Maldives accommodates 90,000 homes.
"As such, 85 percent of households using these is huge acclaim. We assumed that around 60 percent people will take the staples. But because 85 percent had used it, it went very well." said Shimad.
He stated that the amount of staples required for islands were gauged after ascertaining the number of households in each island through their respective councils. However, due to difficulties faced in doing the same in the capital city of Male', rice and flour for the city were brought under an estimation.
At the beginning of Ramadan, Male' City Galolhu Stadium, Department of Administrative Services of Male City Council, Maafannu Social Center, the Hall at Masjid al Birri mosque in Vilimale', Umar Zahir Office Building in Hulhumale' Phase 1 and the youth center in Hiya Flat tower 10 at Hulhumale' Phase 2 had also distributed the staple food items to households.
However, the rice and flour were later dispersed solely from the STO Staple Warehouse.
Shimad assured that the flour dispensed to households are of very good quality this time around, asserting that it was exported from Sri Lanka.
"We received it [the flour] in very fresh condition. It had arrived in Male' around seven days after production. Rice is also a good quality of Basmati." the Managing Director had revealed.
"The distributed flour was just very high quality. The feedback received from people who used it was also very good. It was truly a very high grade of flour."
