Distribution of staple foods begins in Male'

Staple foods will be distributed in Male' from 09:30 hrs to 13:00 hrs and 21:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs during Ramadan.

According to the commitment made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the distribution of rice and flour to every household in Male' City in preparation for the upcoming month of Ramadan today.

According to Male' City Council, the government's Ramadan gift of staple foods will be distributed to each electricity meter, and individuals will be required to present the meter number during the receipt of goods.

The council said that staples must be collected by a Maldivian citizen. The designated individual for collection is required to present their ID card, license, or passport.

Staple food distribution times in Male' area:

- 10:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs

- 20:30 hrs to 23:00 hrs

Staple food distribution times in Male' area during Ramadan:

- 09:30 hrs to 13:00 hrs

- 21:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs

According to the City Council, staple foods will be distributed in six areas in Malé.

- Galolhu Stadium

- Public Service Affairs Department of Male' City Council

- Male' Social Centre

- Vilimale' Masjid-Al-Birri Hall

- Umar Zahir Building, Hulhumale' Phase 1

- Hulhumale' Pase 2 Hiyaa Flat tower 10 Youth Centre

The President announced during a press conference, following his official trip to China, that the State would provide each household with 10 kilograms of rice and 10 kilograms of flour for the duration of Ramadan.

He had further assured that an agreement had been reached with Turkey to import staple food without depending on a specific country for the import of sugar, rice and flour essential for Maldivians while at the Velana International Airport on January 13.

President Muizzu had affirmed that this number will be increased next year. The president had spoken that day of Maldives’ heavy dependance on India for the facilitation of many resources.
