A case has been filed at the Civil Court regarding the results of the Henveiru Central constituency in ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition's primaries held last Saturday.

The most conflict arose concerning the Henveiru Central constituency vote boxes. The most common complaint in this case was that names of individuals who had previously been included on the voters' list had been omitted at the time of voting.

This led to people gathering at the vote center, heated arguments, as well as physical altercations. The unrest increased, resulting in a number of used ballot papers being torn and scattered.

Speaking to Mihaaru News, a candidate contesting for this constituency's seat, Hassan Rameez (Timo), alleged that PPM/PNC has concluded vote counting without taking into consideration the matter of the torn ballot papers.

"That box had not been counted. That box could not even be counted. Many of the ballot papers [in it] were torn and scattered," he said.

PPM/PNC announced that Henveiru Central constituency's coalition ticket was won by Hussain Nasih with 130 votes. Rameez is said to have received 103 votes. Invalid votes were recorded as 10.

The coalition says 243 people cast their votes in this particular ballot box. However, Rameez maintains that the number is actually above 270.

"This is why I have submitted the case to court, appealing for them to look into how these results were produced," Rameez said.
