Attorney General Usham has said that he believes the opposition is withholding approval due to a personal grudge and with the intention of weakening the current administration.
Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Husham has stated that he is of the belief that opposition parties within the parliament have decided to not grant him parliamentary approval on account of personal grudges that they hold against him, and in an effort to weaken the current administration.
While The Democrats and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have both decided to not vote in favour of granting approval to the AG, neither has yet outlined the reasons behind their decisions.
"This is a personal matter. Personal grudges and efforts like this to weaken the government will not even work. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu remains strong," the AG said.
In addition to AG Usham, MDP has announced that it will deny approval to Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed.
The Democrats, meanwhile, have Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer on their list of those to be rejected, in addition to the AG.
The two parties have reservations against, but are as of yet undecided on whether to approve, Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal and Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar.
