Maldives National University (MNU) lecturer, Ali Hafeez, who was recently involved in a severe hit-and-run accident in Malé City, has been transported to India for medical treatment via an air ambulance, according to his family.
Hafeez, who has an impressive 18-year career in education, was leaving the mosque on June 28 after finishing the early morning Fajr prayer when he was struck by a motorcyclist who was traveling at dangerously high speed.
Due to the critical nature of his condition, it was not possible to transport him overseas for medical treatment using regular commercial airlines. However, arrangements were made to transfer Hafeez to India yesterday via an air ambulance.
Hafeez will receive treatment at a hospital in Kochi. The fundraising efforts of many individuals aided in raising the necessary funds for the arrangement.
According to close associates of Hafeez, his condition continues to be serious. Hafeez underwent treatment in the intensive care unit of ADK Hospital before being airlifted to India. There has been no change in his condition since the accident.
According to the Police, the 22-year-old motorcyclist involved in the incident has been arrested following a court order. The police said that the individual did not possess a drivers license.
