Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday, held a virtual interaction with members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations.
Permanent Representatives and representatives from several OIC member states participated in the meeting.
During his address, the foreign minister highlighted that Maldives, which joined OIC in 1976, had supported the cooperation's calls to address issues such as sustainable development, climate change, public health, islamophobia, terrorism and the rights of Muslims, including the Palestinian people, as well as women and children.
Minister Shahid also stated that OIC had acted as a unified body, since its formation in 1969, to express stances on matters of relevance and importance to over 1.5 billion muslims across the world.
Furthermore, the minister shared his perspective on opportunities to sustainably recover from COVID-19 pandemic, sustainable development and revitalization of efforts by the UN General Assembly.
The minister also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in enhancing the multilateral system.
