Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions on Monday, decided to submit a motion to the parliament in order to dismiss Civil Service Commission (CSC)'s President Dr Ali Shameem, Vice President and two members.
The decision was reached following an investigation into the four members. The four can only be removed if the parliament approved the decisions.
During the committee meeting, parliamentarians expressed concerns over delays in commission proceedings, including the drafting of the commission's framework guidelines and hiring additional staff.
Moreover, they noted the presence of individuals known to have aligned with the previous government and taken part in their political activities.
Out of the five CSC members, Fathimath Amira is the only representative on the commission without a threat of job termination.
Amira, a former principal of the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), was appointed by the incumbent administration on November 2018.
The President has no power in appointing a member to the Commission, as opposed to the procedure of other independent institutions. Members of the CSC are appointed through the parliament, with the president extending the documents of the post to the appointee.
