Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday, met with the European Union (EU)'s Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom.
At the meeting held at the European Commission in Brussels, Minister Shahid and Commissioner Malmstrom explored potential avenues to expand trade relations between Maldives and the EU.
Moreover, they discussed the need for greater access to Maldivian tuna at the European market.
Minister Shahid also met with European External Action Service (EEAS)'s Deputy Managing Director for Asia and Pacific, Paola Pampaloni.
During the meeting at EEAS, Pampaloni discussed enhancing cooperation between the EU on various fronts, including good governance, climate change, rule of law, human rights and economic development.
Additionally, the minister met with Members of the European Parliament (MEP), Thomas Zdechovsky, Charles Tannock and Jean Lambert, who chairs the EU delegation for relations with South Asian countries.
The MWP congratulated the government of Maldives for the positive steps taken towards implementing the necessary reforms and expressed their continuous support for democratic consolidation in Maldives.
